McDonald's

fast foodThe world's largest chain of fast food restaurants, serving over 50 million customers daily, McDonald's primarily sells hamburgers, cheeseburgers, chicken products, French fries, McDonald's breakfast items, soft drinks, milkshakes and desserts. More recently, McDonald's also began to offer salads, wraps and fruit. Many McDonald's restaurants have included a playground for children and advertising geared toward children, and some have been redesigned in a more 'natural' style, with a particular emphasis on comfort and the absence of hard plastic chairs and tables.

Ronald McDonald

What better way to demonstrate our status as the top foodservice retailer than with one of the most recognized figure in the world, known to children across the globe and second only to Santa Claus?

The first version of the origin of Ronald McDonald involved Willard Scott (a local radio personality who also played Bozo the Clown on WRC-TV in Washington, D.C. from 1959 until 1962), who performed using the moniker "Ronald McDonald, the Hamburger-Happy Clown" in 1963 on three separate television spots. These were the first three television ads featuring the character, whose later appearance was substantially similar to George Voorhees' prior appearance as Ronald Mcdonald (spelled with a lowercase ‘d').

Since August 2003, McDonald has been officially recognized as the "Chief Happiness Officer" of the McDonald's Corporation. The McDonald's Corporation has also characterized Ronald McDonald as being able to speak 31 different languages including Mandarin, Dutch, Tagalog and Hindi.

Today, Ronald McDonald is a beloved figure and our proud mascot, adored by kids and those who are still kids-at-heart, as well as being a figure for the global community.  We have any people who work full-time making appearances in the Ronald McDonald costume, visiting children in hospitals and brighten up their days. There are also Ronald McDonald Houses, where parents can stay overnight when visiting sick children in nearby chronic care facilities.

Through Ronald, McDonald's shows its commitment to the well-being and happiness of people around the world!

Happy Meal

You know what your kids want.  They're craving a McDonald's Happy Meal, or even a Mighty Kids Meal.  But you're worried about their food, and health, choices.

No need to worry.  With healthier options for your kids' Happy Meal or Mighty Kids Meal, like our Apple Dippers and milk instead of a soft drink, you can make your kids happy and feel good knowing you're helping your children make more sensible choices.  And, of course, with our selection of Happy Meal toys, you can keep your kids full and entertained at the same time. Stop in now and pick up one of our Happy Meal toys, always available for a limited time!

Kids need a variety of vitamins and minerals every day to help them grow strong, play long, and learn better in school. Foods in our Happy Meal or a Mighty Kids Meal can help supply many of these important nutrients. Calcium from milk and cheese, for example, helps form and maintains strong bones and teeth, and it aids in blood clotting, muscle movement and nerve function.

Along with a well-balanced diet, the Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommend that children get at least 60 minutes of moderate physical activity, including active play, most days of the week. Unfortunately, many children fall short of this goal. At McDonald's, we strive to make our PlayPlaces a fun, safe environment for active play such as climbing, jumping, crawling and running.  So after that Happy Meal, let your kids burn some calories and have fun in the process!

The McDonald's Happy Meal and Mighty Kids Meal.  Two great ways for you and your kids to say, "I'm Lovin' It!"

A Beef Burger?  Shake Shake Fries?

fast foodMcDonald's realizes that not every product suits every regions tastes and needs, and that the traditional burger and fries won't cut it in places like, say, India.  So, depending on the part of the world you find a McDonald's in, you may find variations on the traditional McDonald's menu.

Like the beef burger.

It's your normal hamburger, just different in name when you find it in Muslim countries (it's the whole "ham" thing that we try to avoid there).  Or the Shake Shake Fries, a popular variation of our traditional French fries in Hong Kong offered seasonally, and available in several different flavors including seaweed, chargrill, French onion and salt and pepper.

It's part of our commitment to keeping to global standards.  At McDonald's, we strive to make sure everyone's happy with our products as much as they're satisfied with our service!

A McDonald's Job isn't Just a Job

Just ask Karen King.

In 1975, Karen had taken a McDonald's job as a Crew Manager, filling orders and managing her McDonald's crew during the swing shift, back when computers hadn't even hit the restaurants.

"I learned life quality skills that could apply at the Swing Manager level-and beyond," she remembered, taking her best qualities and moving beyond what she ever expected.

From there, her McDonald's job went from Crew Manager to Restaurant Manager, where she learned more of the skills that would help her later, including how to track finance and profit margins, training others and rules on employee and food safety restaurant-wide.  She then moved up to Field Service Manager, then Director of Operations, where her best abilities were put to the test.

And did she stop there?

Of course not.  Karen King, the young girl who held a McDonald's job as a swing shift manager in 1975, now runs over 5,000 restaurants as McDonald's USA's Eastern Division President.

"McDonald's welcomes a diversity of thought, experiences and expertise, and if you have the right combination of these attributes, you can realize tremendous success both personally and professionally," she says about the opportunities available to anyone who works for McDonald's.

The sky's the limit when you apply for a McDonald's job!  With the right combination of drive and hard work, you can go as far as Karen King and, possibly, beyond!

Running a McDonald's Franchise

Are you interested in starting a McDonald's franchise? Think about this: As practiced in retailing, franchising offers franchisees the advantage of starting up a new business quickly based on a proven trademark and formula of doing business, as opposed to having to build a new business and brand from scratch (often in the face of aggressive competition from franchise operators). A well-run McDonald's franchise would offer a turnkey business: From site selection to lease negotiation, training, mentoring and ongoing support as well as statutory requirements and troubleshooting.

Owning a McDonald's franchise is a tremendous opportunity. We are actively seeking highly qualified business people to join our System as Owner/Operators. We are seeking individuals with significant business experience who have successfully owned or managed multiple business units or have led multiple departments and who have significant financial resources.

The leader in foodservice retail all over the world, McDonald's operates over 30,000 restaurants in more than 100 countries, over 70% owned and operated by independent franchisees.

We are a family of over 2,400 Owner/Operators passionate about satisfying our customers, growing our business, making money and having fun. McDonald's has always been a franchising company and has relied on its franchisees, our Owner and Operators, to play a major role in the system`s success. McDonald's remains committed to franchising as a predominant way of doing business.
